Greta Burroughs 99¢ Blog Tour

Today I have the delightful Greta Burroughs on my blog. Her books are written with heart and are full of love. I have read a few of her books thus far but I have yet to have the pleasure of really talking to her and learning about her life! I can’t wait so I am going to just dive right in!!!!

Hi Greta love! If you could change one thing about our world, what would it be and why?

I would change people’s attitudes. So many folks just don’t care about how their actions affect others, our environment or events. They are negative influences that can easily be changed if people stopped to think about what they are doing. One smile, one good deed or one compliment can have a ripple effect and make a big difference.

That is a lofty goal. I so agree with you! You seem like the kind of person who lives up to those expectations too!

Okay, if you knew the exact date of your death down to the minute, what would you change about your life starting tomorrow?

I have always tried to be a positive person but I would make a concentrated effort to do better. All the things I usually put off until tomorrow would be accomplished today, if possible. I would spend more time with our kids (two-legged and four-legged) and try to give them my undivided attention and give more hugs to them and my husband. When I depart this Earth, I want people to be glad they knew me and have plenty of good times to remember.

I have the feeling you have already accomplished those goals Greta and I am certain your friends and family (two-legged and four-legged) receive plenty of love from you. :-)

If you could go back in time to when you were seven years old, what wisdom or advice would you pass on to yourself?

I was a fat kid and a bit obnoxious. I would tell myself one piece of Grandma’s cake was enough and I didn’t need to eat three pieces before leaving the table. As for being obnoxious, what could I tell myself that my mother didn’t say to me? For one thing, I’d be meaner than she was and give myself a kick every time I started getting on people’s nerves.

I have a feeling you are being a bit hard on yourself here. Aren’t most kids somewhat obnoxious at some point? Oh, what do I know????

For what are you grateful?

I have so many things to be grateful for. I had the best parents in the world, even though I never realized it until later on in life. My husband is my best friend and a wonderful gift that keeps on giving. Through him, I have a wonderful step-daughter and her family. We don’t have a fancy house or lots of material things but I have everything I need. We have been blessed with a good life and I am happy. What more could I want?

It is so good that you are able to appreciate that! How lovely!

Who is your favorite character from your book and why?

Alyson from the Wee People books. She’s a little like me - a goofball that means well but not always successful. Plus, she was named for my mother.

That is really nice.

Tell us please about one of your books.

MG/YA fantasy

One Sentence Synopsis

Two boys fall into a strange new world and discover they can accomplish the impossible with a little help from their friends.

Love that Greta!!!! I adore the inspiration that you share in your stories!

Gerald and his best friend, Vernon discover a mysterious spot in the woods where Gerald visualizes a miniature village complete with wee inhabitants. He enjoys going back to that spot and watching the day to day activities until trouble starts in the village and he tries to convince Vernon that the "visions" are real and the wee people need help.
While trying to prove that the whole thing is just Gerald's wild imagination, the boys literally fall into the new world and get caught up in a war. The boys come up with ways to keep the invading force from entering the village but another solution has to be found in order to put an end to the conflict.
Along with a few companions from the village, Gerald and Vernon embark on a quest to face down the deranged forest god who instigated the mayhem. The dangerous path is laid out by an ancient prophecy, but not everything goes as planned.

Why they had to hurry, Gerald did not know but something in the back of his mind kept telling him that time was running out. It took a few minutes, but all the boys were finally awake, a little groggy but ready to move.
The problem was that everything seemed to be happening in slow motion. The heat was almost unbearable. It was a major effort to put one foot in front of the other. Gerald reminded the rest of his team that it was Miach’s way of keeping them from reaching their destination. But this time the illusion did not stop when he mentioned the forest god being up to his old tricks.
This time it was no illusion. The walls burned their hands, the hot air burned their throats. The floor was sticky with some kind of hot substance that burned their feet through their shoes. They began to hear a distant sound like the laughter they had heard earlier.
Cian fell to his knees and cried out in pain as the scalding liquid burned his skin. “I can’t go on, just leave me here to die,” he screamed.
Tomas reached out to his brother and tried to help him up. It was no use; he was too weak and exhausted. In a very weak voice he said, “You all go on. I’ll stay with Cian. I can’t go another step anyway.”
No one else said a word, the other two boys were too tired to talk, too tired to walk, too tired to care.
This was not supposed to be happening. Gerald did not remember this from his nightmares. Something was wrong. He yelled to whoever was listening, “Did we take a wrong turn or something? Stop it Miach, stop it. You want me, leave my friends alone.”
That just made matters worse. The scampering, unseen creatures came out of nowhere. They did not just run past this time but stayed and started pinching and biting the legs and arms of Gerald’s companions. For some strange reason though, the creatures did not bother him.
All four of his companions were down, rolling around on the ground trying to fight off the shadowy figures. The screams intensified from his friends as the burning liquid covered their bodies and the creatures’ biting turned to gnawing. Gerald could hear pieces of flesh being torn away as the other boys were being eaten alive. The laughter was all around them now bouncing off the walls and echoing through Gerald’s head.
“Stop it, stop it now. Please, I’ll do anything you want, Miach, just stop the noise, and stop torturing my friends.”
Total silence fell. All the gnawing, screaming and laughter were gone. Gerald did not know if the total lack of sound was worse than all the noise. He noticed a light shining above him. He looked around and realized he was all alone.
A voice spoke inside his mind and said, “Anything I want, huh,” followed by a soft, haunting chuckle.

My Review:

This is a story about bravery and putting others before yourself among many other things. This book was filled with positive messages and was told in an entertaining creative way. I really enjoyed this adventurous journey and was rooting for Gerald and Vernon to save the day. The writing seemed effortless and the narrative was easy to follow. Even though this book is mainly for young boys I enjoyed reading as the mysterious adventure unfolded. There was a sophistication to this saga that made me have to really think and pay attention so I wouldn't miss a thing.

"Vernon could not concentrate on his schoolwork. All he could think about was the stupid promise he had made the night before. Why did he agree to accompany his friend into those woods at night? He started to think he was as insane as Gerald. There was no way to back out now. He had to keep his promise, but he was not going to go unprepared."

Thank you so much for sharing with us today Greta. I am loving getting to know you. Please keep writing!!! You have so much to give!!!

Author’s Bio

Greta Burroughs loves to read. No matter where she is, there is always a book close at hand. Her love of reading began at an early age and blossomed over time to include many different genres, her favorite now being fantasy.
As a preschool and elementary school teacher, Greta tried to instill the joy of reading in the children she worked with. Books were an important part of her classroom and story time was the highlight of the day.
It has been a while since Greta was in a classroom but she had lots of experience in reading to children of various ages and remembers what they enjoyed listening to. She tries to incorporate that knowledge into her work as an author and believes it makes her a better writer of children's and young adult books.
She now resides in SC with her husband, Robert and three dogs. Greta has six books published at the present time; three children’s books in the Patchwork Dog and Calico Cat series, two MG/YA fantasy entitled Gerald and the Wee People and House on Bo-Kay Lane, and a nonfiction account of her experiences with an autoimmune blood disorder called ITP - Heartaches and Miracles.

Today I want to wish the talented author Karen Magill a very happy birthday. I love Karen for her memorable blog posts with great stories and fabulous pictures mostly to do with her love of Vancouver, British Columbia...Notes from a Vancouverite who roams the city.

In honor of Karen’s birthday she is offering two of her books at 99¢. See where Missing Flowers started with The Bond

Or you can join a revolution with Mystique Rising also at 99 cents.

A woman, Laura Neill, in Vancouver is struck by a Chrysler Intrigue while crossing the street. At the same time in Toronto a car also strikes Julian Rule. Both people have an out of body experience and meet as they are floating. Their ethereal forms bond as one before separating - each taking a part of the other’s soul with them as they return to their bodies.
When the two people wake up, they remember the experience they shared and have memories of each other. The simultaneous accidents created a psychic bond. They are truly soul mates. Although Laura is haunted by visions of Julian that she cannot understand, she has decided to make dramatic changes in her life. One of them is becoming engaged to a member of England’s nobility that has recently appeared in her life. When he senses that she is in danger – a feeling that is confirmed by a psychic friend – Julian goes to Vancouver to come to her aid. With the help of a detective, Julian is able to prove that Laura’s fiancĂ© is a con artist and a murderer. When Julian confronts the man, he and Laura are placed in imminent danger.

When psychic Julie Seer moves to Vancouver, her dreams are filled with visions of women being murdered. She doesn’t know who is being killed, or why, until the day Julie goes to a press conference held by the Vancouver Police Station: a press conference to announce the formation of a special task force that will investigate the case of the prostitutes who have gone missing from Vancouver’s East Side.
Detective Constable Santoro Ricci, an officer with the Vancouver Police Department, wants on the special task force. When he happens upon Julie at the press conference, Ricci finds himself unofficially investigating the case.

Julie also finds herself having visions where she is transported back in time into the body of a Chinese prostitute in the late 1800s. Through these visions, and stories told to her by long time residents of the city, Julie learns more of the history of Vancouver.

With the help of Francine, an east side prostitute, Julie and Santoro work together to solve the mystery of the missing women. When Francine and Julie are taken by the killer, Santoro must find the missing answers fast.

My Review

While I was reading the words, the story just seemed to come to life in vivid pictures. Missing Flowers was one book that was hard not to think about. I found myself going over the story in my head hours after I put it down. It was easy to get caught up wondering where it was going to lead.

The writing was clear and easy to digest. It was not too fancy or over the top. It was like going on an adventure into someone else's mind. There were many twists and turns that grabbed my attention and was a great escape that felt very realistic. I loved the relationship between Julie and Santoro and enjoyed how the Vancouver, B.C. landscaping was brought to life in this novel. While I was reading the words, the story just seemed to come to life in vivid pictures. I could imagine being on the streets.

On a personal note, I never believed in psychics until the the Long Island Medium came around. Now my skeptical nature has been forever challenged.

I had no idea where this story was headed but it didn't matter because Missing Flowers was such a well written, enjoyable story. By the end, I was sorry there was not more. I know it is not even close to being over!

"She choked and coughed. Tears were starting to run down her face as the smoke inflamed her sensitive membranes. She couldn't see. She knew she had to move but was frozen in place, watching those around her trying to escape the devouring flames, trying to find safety.
Julie knew she had to move, had to flee, but her feet wouldn't budge. An overwhelming fear engulfed her. She had to move or else she would die. The fire seemed so much closer; she could actually see a building in the distance being devoured by the greedy flames. It hadn't stood a chance. She tried to wipe the tears from her eyes so that she could see but the liquid just kept coming. Someone grabbed her from behind and started dragging her away. She felt herself getting lost in the crowd."

In a bloody showdown during a Mystique concert, the government ended rock music. The members of Mystique disappeared - as many musicians before them had -without a trace.
This drives fans underground and they form the rebel group, the Let Us Play Organization. Presently Kaya More, who is the daughter of a slain LUPO founder, as well as a descendant of a member of Mystique, leads LUPO.

The gift of second sight aids Kaya as she leads the rebels from New York City to California to the Canadian Rockies. Once LUPO joins forces with other outlaws from around the world, the rebellion explodes and a showdown between the oppressors of music and fans is inevitable.

Fateful Night (What She Knew Trilogy) By Krhughes and Tlburns

FATEFUL NIGHT by Krhughes andTlburns is an awesome book about Marilyn Monroe that I believe will blow you away!!!!

T.L. Burns and K. R. Hughes did a delightful job recounting the events surrounding Marilyn Monroe’s death in this captivating new book.

“Did Marilyn Monroe commit suicide? Did someone get away with an elaborate plot to murder the famous sex goddess? On that “Fateful Night” in August 1962 find out what may have happened to her and why she was killed. Many argue that she was involved in way too many secrets from different factions of the world. She was a smart woman who could play the dumb blonde to attain her stardom yet she unwittingly learned of conspiracy plots and political threats that would not only end her life but that of the current president, John F. Kennedy.

In this fast paced suspense every major player of the early sixties is involved, from the world politicians, to the Rat Pack, to Hollywood, and the mafia. What if Marilyn Monroe had lived and what if what she knew could have saved JFK?
Fact or fiction? What if....”

My Review:

To start, I want to say, WOW!!!!! What an ending!!!!!

This was a very entertaining book. I really liked the idea of all these government secrets, illegal affairs, scandalous acts, and corruption all coming together in one story. It might be fiction but I am sure there is more reality in there than we will ever know!

"John stood watching his wife as she slept on the couch in their private chambers at the White House. She still looked pale and sickly after the ordeal of the birthday party, even though that was a month ago now. I've failed you, Jackie. I could've been more discreet and saved you the embarrassment. I'll try to do better."

The Last Night by Heather Kirchhoff

Today I am sharing a cover reveal for a very talented author, Heather Kirchhoff. This young lady really knows how to write. Her short story ‘Save Me’ in APOCALYPSE: An Anthology by Authors and Readers was brilliant. That is why I am so flattered that she asked me to join in on her cover reveal for her soon to be released book, The Last Night.
After Sarah Hill's boyfriend dies, everything changes. Caught up in her grief and desire to see him again, Sarah is challenged in moving on. She's sucked back into the world Sarah was in before they started dating-being invisible, bullied. She slowly begins to pull away from everyone, unable to do it anymore. Then one day her reality comes crashing down all around her, pushing Sarah to the edge...

My Review:

The pain this young girl experiences seems real. The losses she suffers is relatable on so many levels. This girl feels alone in the world, is bullied and misunderstood. She could be any of us. I could feel the pain she was in and the internal struggle she was dealing with. I got so caught up in the story that I didn't want to put it down. It was written with so much real life emotion. I want to applaud the author for writing such a moving yet vulnerable story about a teenager that has to deal with modern day problems. Sadly, so many teens keep their sorrow to themselves. Sometimes no one finds out about the suffering until it is too late.

"More tears crept down my cheeks, leaving them burning. Everything felt wrong. I was wrong. I didn’t belong here. I don’t fit in well enough, I never have. I’m always just that girl. The one who’s so quiet. The one who dated Ryan. The one who is constantly bullied. All because no one sees me for
who I truly am. I’m just there. That’s all, nothing more, nothing less. I opened my eyes and stared at the wall, letting my thoughts go insane, letting everything I’ve ever known slip even farther from me. I don’t try to get a grip on anything anymore. I’m done. I’m sick of being bullied, sick of being ignored, misunderstood. I’m tired of being alone. I don’t want that. I don’t want people to see me differently. I don’t want to go through this anymore. I don’t want someone to become my friend and then leave nor do I want to suffer. I can’t live like that. I’m always looking behind me, waiting for someone to expose my secret. I go through the same motions everyday,
burying my thoughts deep down, taking a deep breath, and facing the world. But eventually those thoughts come back to the surface, building my wall once again. I felt it happen, noticed how my hand started to shake as I became overwhelmed.”
I live in a small town in Missouri with my three parents, sibliings, energy-filled dog, guinea pig, and three cats. I love to read, write, listen to music, hunt, fish, be outside, spend time with my animals/family, take pictures, and go for a walk in the woods. Music is my best friend. ♥
Writing is my passion, I don't know what I'd do without it. I just love it. When I'm not writing I'm doing odd jobs, reading, taking walks, or spending time with my animals/family.

Just in case you have not read it yet, please check out this great book:

You could even throw in some romance and meet some new people to help you on your journey.

Digitus 233 by K.D. Emerson

Digitus 233 by K.D. Emerson
Today I have the pleasure and honor of sharing one of the most wonderful YA books that I have read, Digitus 233 by K.D. Emerson who is as lovely as can be.

Author K.D. Emerson has one of the biggest hearts around with her generous personality and uplifting spirit. She is a constant source of inspiration. Emerson works tirelessly to promote and help other authors reach their goals.

I just wish she could get around to writing the second book in the series. She left us hanging on the first one and I would really like to know WHAT HAPPENED?????

When Zeph, the adventurous son of a millionaire hid in the cargo hold of the Learjet carrying his brother Zander to camp he had no idea there was anything dark or ominous going on. That was until he watched Zander ejected from the plane onto a barren arctic island and Zeph, trapped in the cargo hold, found himself headed for South America. Will he be able to expose the truth behind Digitus, the world’s dominant corporation or will they succeed in their sinister plan to control his brother and destroy the world?

Author Bio:
K.D. Emerson was born several years ago. We won’t go into how long it has been because she has this fantasy that she is still a teenager off to conquer the world. Her first novel was written in pencil, stapled together and placed in the school library. At age 6, she didn’t have a clue an author needed a publisher. She has a passion for the written word and assisting other writers in becoming the best they can be. She also loves to promote others and cheer them on to victory. Follow her on twitter @MstrKoda or you can find her at and on Facebook at

Deep within the dark abyss of his mind, Zander tried to shout, but no sound escaped. It felt as though a heavy mallet beat against his skull. Pushing the pain to the back of his mind, he forced himself to focus and slithered through the murk toward a pinpoint of light. Gulping for air, he burst through the blackness and forced his eyes open. A scream escaped before he could stop himself. Inches away, a face; a set of open blue eyes stared at him. Was it a dead body? He struggled with his arms and legs, unexpectedly unable to force them to move. He was tied up in some kind of silky material! The eyes in front of him blinked. This time he caught the scream half way up and swallowed it. He had to get control of himself.

Just a few partial Reviews:

This is the most exciting book I have read in years! If you want to read a book that makes your pulse run faster, cause your hair to raise on your arms, hold your breath, make your heart pump faster, get sea sick without being at sea, feel frozen though you are warm, and keep you on the edge all the time this is definitely the book for you.
 OMG what a ride!!

Digitus 233 tells a story, but it isn't that simple. This is one deep story that will have you guessing and gasping at every turn. You'll want to wear your literary seat belt for this one. In this dystopian young adult thriller Emerson shines light on power, control, and life in general, all wound into one breathtaking story. The author allows you to get inside the heads of not only one main character, but of all of them, which allows for so much breadth and life.

I will have to say this book was a fast action read that was thrilling to the very end. Not only do you become involved in the lives of the characters, you also are very involved with the plot. The different conspiracies will leave you guessing quite a few times.

Engaging, imaginative and a great read for adults and teens. Now, there are not many books you can say that about! I give it 5 stars and have to say K.D.Emerson delivers a exceptional read.

This is a fast-paced, hold-on-to-the-edge-of-your-seat, heart-thumping thriller. It captivated my attention from the first page and wouldn't let go until I finished it in one sitting. WOW! An amazing ride. Can't wait for the next book in this series. Well-written and highly recommended.

This is a book I've been waiting for a long time! A perfect adventure without violence or sex. Something that suits both girls and boys and yet is a great read for adults too. Personally that `for boys' part makes me especially happy as I've really had a hard time figuring out what to recommend for teen and young adult boys but not anymore. So if you are Teen/YA reader, have sons, nephews, grandsons... don't waste time pondering what to read next.

The author takes you on an unparalleled journey into the mind of young man bearing the weight of the world. Ride along as Kai faces an unforgiving world filled with danger around every corner and every turn. Cheer, fight for and struggle with Kai as he sets out on an adventure that could very well cost him his life!

Kai's Journey

Our journey started as a school project back in 2009. Charlie was given the task of writing, editing, and publishing a book. He was always writing stories and the teachers had a difficult time getting him to do his homework or doing the writing topics they wanted him to write on. Since then we have tried our hand at finding an agent with the big publishing companies before going the indie route. We had found someone to help us edit the book but they didn't quite have the same vision for the story as we did. We had also found someone to help us create a book cover but again, they didn't quite see it as we did. Since we have joined with MasterKoda Select Publishing we have had wonderful help with editing the book to make it the best story possible with characters that will stay with you long after you finish the book. Dan Peyton who is a very talented author is also a gifted artist who helped us by drawing the characters Kai and Clover for the cover. His amazing talents and beautiful work can be seen on the cover along with Rebbekah Whites background that helps bring the story to life. Together these two wonderful people have created a beautiful work of art that we are proud to display for our book cover.

Charlie will be attending college this fall for auto mechanics. He loves to read and create stories. He works full time at a local auto shop now. Charlie’s inspiration to become a writer and who got him hooked on reading books is Christopher Paolini who also started his writing career while in high school as well.
Wendy is a wife, mother and also works as a tier one tech at a local call center. She has always loved to read books and when her children were small she loved to tell them stories she would make up with the kids being the main characters. Together Charlie and Wendy create worlds and people who live in them.
